Auto Assembly 2013 promo pieceby ~Kingoji

A little while back the Auto Assembly top dog got in touch with me in regards to the promotional artwork for the 2013 convention, and specifically the image that they would use as the convention's primary promotion visual. As with last year, it seems that the decision has been made to use franchise icons which would catch the eye and that people would recognize immediately rather than characters played by the con's guests of honour for the year. And they don't get much more iconic than Optimus Prime and Megatron.

I was asked just to do them in a kind of face to face stand off (much, I would imagine, like the image I did for 2011), but this was the image which came to me instead. I wanted to do something which invoked the same kind of "epic" confrontation feeling as their legendary final battle in TransFormers The Movie, but I was also fully cognizant of the impending release of TransFormers Regeneration One #85 which would also feature a final battle between the pair, this time for the ORIGINAL, Marvel Comics continuity versions of the characters, a battle which has been *three decades* in coming.

I'm not presumptuous enough to claim any measure of success in what I set out to do with this, but I will say that it's my favourite of the similar images I've done for Auto Assembly thus far.
